Creation of a garden shed offering natural light and quick to build by an individual on foundations in concrete blocks.
About
The basic idea behind the design was to find the best way of putting together pieces of timber. We came to the conclusion that the simplest and most elegant assembly method was to stack timber elements. This construction principle produces not only the structure but also the walls of the box. It also makes it possible to create shelves by fitting pieces of timber into the structure. The shed is made waterproof by wrapping the structure in translucent corrugated sheets. It took less time to build the project than to design it. In fact, each piece of timber was sized, pre-cut in a workshop, then delivered in kit-form on-site. Timber was a natural choice due to the fact that it is one of the few materials that can be easily handled by an individual. The ecological credentials of timber also tipped the balance in its favour. Taken from a regional species, the timber used is sourced from a joinery situated less than ten kilometres from the site. Timber is also highly reversible : the entire construction can be dismantled in its entirety.
