- Extension of a single-family home.
- The Client wanted to create a family room coming directly off the living areas of the existing house. The new extension was intended to house a playroom and reading room for children. Given the proximity of the neighbouring houses, the brief was also for the new construction to lend greater intimacy to the existing home. This therefore led to an architecture that played with the foreground and background. Only two independent walls delineate completely the space, their extension to the outside frames the view and ensures the intimacy of the living areas. Timber proved to be an obvious choice of material. On the one hand, for constructive reasons (extremely reduced construction time, optimal thermal insulation, dry construction). On the other hand, timber ties in with the existing cladding on the front facade. The project makes maximum use of timber and its derivatives : structure in Scots Pine, vapour barrier in OSB panels, rain barrier in wood fibre panels, thermal insulation in wood wool and cladding in cedar.[...]
